Google India launches Make Small Strong: Google India has launched a unique initiative titled ‘Make Small Strong’ that aims to support small and local businesses, especially amid the challenging times of the pandemic. The initiative launched on 30 September will enable small businesses to go digital and strengthen their presence online to reach out to more people. Furthermore, Google India has joined Jagran.com to drive a community-wide drive, encourage consumers to buy locally, and promote local products.
Citizens and regional groups have also been asked to lend a helping hand to small businesses by providing their genuine reviews about local and small businesses and promoting them both locally and on various digital platforms.
Need for Make Small Strong Campaign
Traditionally, India’s economy is built upon small and medium businesses that find their presence across the length and breadth of the country. Since March 2020, such businesses have been facing several challenges regarding their recovery after the Coronavirus Lockdown. Several factors, including challenges of lockdown restrictions, disruption in supply chains and reduced spending by consumers; survival of small businesses has become a major challenge in the post COVID world.

As per a report, nearly 24% of 60 Million small businesses in India, which make-up the hyper-local economic system of the country, face the threat of closure due to the pandemic, if situation worsens further. Understanding the challenges faced by small business, Google India has decided to launch Make Small Strong Campaign, which will help small businesses go digital.
How will ‘Make Small Strong’ Work?
Taking inspiration from PM Modi’s call of being ‘Vocal for Local’, Google India plans to bring together citizens to support small businesses by buying locally. As part of the campaign, Google India will assist small business owners to build their digital presence by making sure their business profile is up to date with all business info and photos.
Google India will leverage its technological tools including Google search and maps businesses build digital presence in partnership with Zoho and Instamojo.
