National Tourism Day- Varanasi Travel, the 2nd online travel: National Tourism Day in India is celebrated every January 25 to promote the tourism industry in the country and to recognize the contribution of the sector to the growth and sustainability of the local communities in and around tourist places. The history behind the celebration of this day is exactly not known.
However, in 1948, a Tourist Traffic Committee was formed to promote tourism. The first regional offices of the same were established in Delhi and Mumbai. Three years later, in 1951, more offices were opened in Kolkata and Chennai. A department specifically about tourism was established in 1958 under the Ministry of Tourism and Communication that was headed by the Deputy General in the rank of Joint Secretary.

Every year, National Tourism Day highlights the year's theme to increase awareness about different travel elements. The theme for 2024 is 'Sustainable Travels, Timeless Memories,' promoting responsible and conscious travel. However, the focus in 2023 was "Tourism and Green Investments,' emphasizing the connection between tourism and green financial practices.
